The M17 and its compact sibling the M18 are the service pistols of the United States armed forces, variants of the SIG Sauer P320 selected in January 2017 as the Army's Modular Handgun System to replace the Beretta M9. Striker-fired 9mm pistols built by SIG Sauer in New Hampshire, they are designed around a removable fire-control unit, the legally serialized part, that can be moved into grip modules of different sizes. The 101st Airborne Division received the first M17s in late 2017, and the Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force all now issue the M17 or M18.
